Inspire reluctant readers to love reading even if they are struggling with reading now. The young readers’ names are in the stories and they choose what happens on adventures to real places around the world!
These ‘choose your own path’ stories, filled with beautiful real-life images, give young readers the four items they need to enjoy reading:
1. The young readers are IN the story,
2. They choose what happens,
3. They go to real places, with real pictures, and
4. They are on an adventure to find something cool
These are not your typical “cartoon” stories. For the young reader who prefers seeing real pictures of places and learning about different cultures on adventures around the world, there is finally an answer. This app is for them.
After downloading the app, the young readers will enter their names so they become the characters in the story. With the ‘choose your own path’ format, when the readers are in the Amazon and there has been a heavy rain, they can choose to take the flooded low road that may have anacondas or the high road that is used by jaguars to get to the cave of hidden treasure.
At the beginning, readers can click ‘Play Games’ to learn the words in the stories, or they can click ‘Read Stories.’ Then they can choose to have the story read to them or they can choose to read the story on their own. There is audio helping the young reader choose which buttons to push and the buttons are color coded if the reader can’t read the buttons yet.
These stories are more advanced than a basic reading level and were created to help young readers enjoy reading through engaging, adventurous plot lines. Since the stories can also be read aloud to them, those who do not yet know how to read can still enjoy the app. Also, for more confident readers, there are advanced words in the stories (especially those used when describing locations around the world), so using the games to learn to words in the stories is encouraged. Still, if the young readers get stuck on a word, they can click on the text and it will pronounce the difficult word aloud for them.
The young readers learn about other cultures and pick up healthy habits along the way, based on what their guide suggests to them on the adventures.
Here’s what some teachers and parents have had to say about Learn to Read Adventures:
“As a homeschooler, I am always looking for fun, creative ways to get my kids reading! I have an almost 6 year-old and a 9 year old and both think this is the coolest idea ever! When a 9 year-old is interested in a “learn to read” app…now that’s ingenious! Best of luck Learn to Read Adventures! I hope you are around when my 2 year old gets ready to crack the books himself!”
– Lauriann Jones, Homeschool Teacher & Mother, Tucscon, AZ
“I don’t know what is more awesome – the technology you are creating to help kids love to read OR the fact that a 6 year old had a vision and his Father helped him make it a reality! The project is the future of reading for kids and I’m excited to see it get off the ground!”
– Sherri Beauchamp, Mother, Calgary, Canada
“My son played on the app for an hour and loved it. We loved the option to make choices throughout the story and he reread the story several times to see all the different possible outcomes.”
– Stacey Porter, First Grade Teacher and Mother, Atlanta, GA
“I love this! We discovered my youngest son couldn’t read during the summer between his 3rd and 4th grade year. He was bright and sly enough to hide his “disability.” We discovered he was dyslexic and hired a tutor, along with spending countless hours helping him. This would have been ideal to keep his attention!”
– Diane Bell, Mother, Oklahoma City, OK
